Kevin Gosztola is stopping by #OccupyPhilly this afternoon on his way to New York. Occupy Philadelphia launched last Thursday at Dilworth Plaza, and today issued a press release indicating that there are about 80 tents currently set up on the west side of City Hall. Kevin will be livestreaming his visit and interviewing people there.
Today’s events include a concert from 1-4pm organized by Parliament Funkadelic’s Bruce Mays featuring JiLil Timmons, Jason Balmer, GQ, Tre Austin and Amada Gilson. There will be a 3:30 solidarity march with the State Hands Union of Philadelphia (IATSE 8), and a 7 pm general assembly meeting at 15th and JFK.
You can follow #OccupyPhilly on Twitter.

Welcome to Pennsylvania
I am with you Jane and Kevin. Keep up the good work.
((Stands in awe of all of you))
And of you, popyeye! Your diaries (and your commitment) are amazing. You inspire me.
Your decision to add Kevin to the FDL blog community is very appreciated. I don’t know what we all would have done without the liveblog.
Thank you Jane your comment fires me up and means a lot to me.
Excellent work Kev… vital I might add.
I am pretty sure that the feds are going to try to clamp this down with mass arrests soon..
700 arrests in NYC didn’t stop the movement. I’m pretty sure the only way to “stop” it now to let it run its course and do nothing. But that will only work if there is too much timidity in the movement and the occupiers let the government do nothing.
*heh* Kevin interviewing the hotties.
Gah, protester doesn’t know FDL.

♥! ☮!
That’s what I found at OccupyAtanta yesterday, as well. Nobody ever heard of FDL. Of course, I did all I could to tout the website.
Just imagine what might happen once they *do* hear of FDL!
Scary awareness lol.
Who are the real criminals? Our ATF Agents hand off guns to cartels these days and cover it up. Glenn Langohr 949 498 2174 rollcallthebook@gmail.com http://www.lockdownpubishing.com
ROLL CALL by Glenn Langohr 120,000 words/ 4 seasons- similar to Breaking Bad and Son’s of Anarchy with a redemptive twist. ISBN 978-1-4392-4608-5 14.99 paperback 2.99 kindle e-book
Roll Call shines a light at the dark, hidden underbelly of the U.S War on Drugs. The author takes the admonition from the Biblical story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, “God doesn’t want you to eat of the tree of knowledge because he doesn’t want you to become as smart as him”, and relates it to the modern drug war, showing how the American justice system has turned illegal drugs into forbidden fruits; leading to a roller coaster ride through drug cartels, street gangs and outlaw bikers, all trying to get their piece of the action. Add a good detective squeezed out of the loop by an overzealous detective, a robust prison union calling bad shots, and a handful of drug criminals trying to find their conscience; and you have the perfect recipe for a revolutionary uprising; bound by blood, all leaving the reader wondering, who are the real criminals? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0056C0LW4

Overzealous Narcotic Detective Pincher, on paid leave and under investigation, starts using drugs, and then is hired again as a Narcotic Detective in L.A where he steals heroin from the evidence locker until he is reeled in by the Mexican Mafia and the Hollywood Madam.
B.J struggles not to look back at the Criminal Justice System that tried to kill him. Inspired to help prisoners turn their lives around through art, he works for the church helping orphans until he’s on the run again. Add a beautiful ballerina who marries B.J, a prison protest to help the voiceless, and the temptation to do a massive drug run from Mexico, and you have the perfect recipe for a Spiritual revolution, where compassion is missing, all leaving the reader wondering; who are the real criminals?

A penetrating look inside of one California’s most volatile prisons.
B.J, a drug dealer serving time, takes the reader on a never before seen, inside look at a California level 4 prison. The inner dynamics between prison guards, gang investigators and the Warden are on display along with the political climate between races where a war is brewing between the Mexicans and Blacks with the White race caught in the crossfire!
Lock Up Diaries- A California Pelican Bay Prison Story- 20,000 words e-book 99 cents
A depiction of life inside of prison and a look at the political landscape between races, segregated by cell after being released from the Pelican Bay SHU in California. The amazing details of prison life – code words that prisoners use, explanations of how they communicate from cell to cell – really make you feel you have entered a different world, or like you are watching a movie about prison life. The story shows how race riots that can kill prisoners can be started for very small and seemingly unimportant reasons, and how violence permeates every aspect of prison life.
Gladiator- A California Pelican Bay Prison Story- 13,000 words e-book 99 cents
B.J and the Mexican Mafia in action behind bars in a California level 4 prison
The funny thing is that when the rest of civilization realizes what a gem Kevin in, that activist will be able say she was interviewed by ‘im at #occupy.
Just got home from Occupy Sacto. Tired. There were fewer people there today than on Thursday. I think that the unemployed will show up during the week and make a difference.
The police are “letting” them stay until midnight. The park closes at eleven. Then they go in and bust anyone who is left. In other words, they are busting the demonstrators after the ten and eleven o’clock news has aired. Willy coyotes.
I did, too, rc! I frequent another very nonpolitical website. no politics allowed on the main board…you can discuss almost everything else. So I searched for groups off the main boards who id’d as liberal and who might be discussing OWS.
The first post I found was of someone who thought the protests were awesome, followed by comments and observations from people who mostly watch/read MSM. What’s the message, they ask. Or why didn’t they turn out for X cause?
I commented that I was interested in where they get their news (I really want to know). Someone mentioned Ed Schultz! ahahah. MSM is mostly corporate PR. Anyway, I steered them over to FDL and most particularly Kevin’s blog here. I suggested that liberals should really include blogs in their daily reading, fgs.
I also sent them all the link to the OWS Declaration. It’s not much, but if I can open a couple of minds up, that’s a start.
good on ya, Mary. I think attendance ebbs and flows with all these efforts. Hang in there!
Kevin, know you have a lot on your plate, but wanted to point you & others to the latest NYT editorial and particularly the comments. Sounds like people are getting the message – and supporting it. http://community.nytimes.com/comments/www.nytimes.com/2011/10/09/opinion/sunday/protesters-against-wall-street.html
In my opinion, people who are complaining about “lack of message” or asking “what’s the message” need look no further than Alan Grayson’s pwning of the digusting entity known as pj o’rourke on this week’s Real Time with Bill Maher. Kevin provided a clip here recently and it can probably also be found on YouTube by now. Alan was pretty quiet most of the show, but the words he spoke about what the message is are clear as a bell and should be heard by everyone. Bill Maher actually made me sick with his disgusting sycophantic behaviour toward o’rourke, which made Bill seem like part of the problem instead of part of the solution.
As for Kevin, I once said he was a leader of the future, but I now amend that. He is a true leader of today and I am so grateful for his work. He makes people like me, who weren’t old enough to be part of the 60s revolution but nonetheless saw it unfold on TV, very proud and glad to have lived to see him and others in his age group come to forefront when we need them the most.
It’s a very good start, IMO, dosido. It is abundantly clear that we here at FDL are in the very narrow part of the Bell Curve as far as having awareness of actual facts and and context of the events that led us here. Tipping good-hearted people to the opportunity to do a rapid catch-up on their political and economic education is a very powerful thing. Each teach one, and so on.
Morning Everyone.
I’ve been driving Miss Daisy for three days, but I’ve tried to keep up. I’ve been looking closely at those closet to me. Occupy Charlotte is growing and finally we have some decent coverage in local news.

Agreed! I am his fan. Kevin should win all sorts of awards for his coverage of these protests from DAY ONE! He is the ONLY blogger/journalist that I know of that reported publicly on the very first infant days.
thanks for the reply LGG. Good idea about grayson. I will link vid to him for the quick punchy stuff. And of course link here for sincere investigators of truth.
thanks rc. I have to remember to be patient. I do not consider myself a radical or esp. political, just kind of a pissed off citizen. I’m astonished at low info people but again, that’s why MSM is so effective.
Everyone should have an interest in knowing the truth. The TV will never give it to you. With a computer, at least you have a chance. With FDL, you have a guarantee. (Hey, I just wrote an FDL commercial for TV lol.)
