UPDATE 5:00 PM Kevin is headed back down to Occupy Wall Street for a live stream. Check the feed around 6 pm for scenes of Liberty Park this evening.
Kevin’s down at Liberty Park right now where a few thousand protesters are being met by a growing police force and empty buses. -Elliott [UPDATE: This is my write-up on the tense scene at Liberty Park this morning as occupiers waited to be evicted before being notified the park owner was not going to go through with the use of police force to clear the park.]

LIVE STREAM OF OCCUPY WALL STREET VIA GLOBAL REVOLUTION
10:40 PM OWS organizers reportedly invited to negotiate with Bloomberg’s people. They declined.
10:32 PM Another case of NYPD police brutality: white-shirted officer punches a male protester in the face
4:58 PM I recorded this yesterday at Occupy Boston. A member of Veterans for Peace talks to me about the raid on “Camp Two” in Boston on Tuesday at 1:30 am. Veterans for Peace stood in between the protesters and police and as a result the police beat them down with batons. The VFP member talks about what happened and then demonstrates a tactic he thinks thy should have used to make it harder for the police to drag them away.
4:48 PM Protesters at Occupy San Diego pepper-sprayed
4:22 PM Occupy Wall Street’s statement on the day’s victory:
“Brookfield Properties is the 1%. They have invested $24 billion in mortgage-backed securities, so as millions face foreclosure and eviction due to predatory lending and the burst of the housing bubble that Wall Street created, its not surprising they threatened to evict Occupy Wall Street,” said Patrick Bruner, an organizer with Occupy Wall Street from the Bed-Stuy neighborhood of Brooklyn. “But Brookfield and Bloomberg have backed down and our movement is only growing as the 99% take to the streets world wide to call for economic justice.”
The early morning announcement from the Mayor’s office in New York came after 300,000+ Americans signed petitions to stop the eviction, and flooded the 311 phone network in solidarity with those in Liberty Square. At 6 AM this morning, 3,000+ New Yorkers, unions, students, and others joined the occupiers in the square to send a clear message to the 1% who want to silence this peaceful assembly of the 99%. Donations poured into the protesters from Italy, England, Mexico and many other countries by everyday people hoping to help the movement grow.
“For too long the 99% have been ignored as our economic system has collapsed. The banks got bailouts and we’ve been sold out, ” said Harrison Schultz, business analyst from Brooklyn . “Wall Street’s greed has corrupted our country and is killing our planet. But today we celebrate victory and vow to keep fighting for justice and change on Wall Street, and in over 100 cities in the US and over 950 cities globally.”
4:15 PM

Al Sharpton and Ed Schultz will still spend their shows pretending they know what frustrates occupiers and understand what occupiers can do to gain more political power.
Start the 99% Caucus — Oh, that will fix Congress. I bet it would be about as successful as the Progressive Caucus at making change.

3:52 PM More video that shows what happened to the legal observer who had his foot run over by a police motorcycle. This video shows the police clamping down on anyone trying to get photos or video of the injured legal observer. And, police go into the crowd and pull one person out and it looks like the person is arrested:

2:57 PMTom Morello talks with Keith Olbermann about the importance of music and culture to the “Occupy” protests
2:47 PM Meet two “occupy hoppers.” One of them, I believe, is @DustinSlaughter
2:35 PM Horrifying video of police officer on a motorcycle running over a National Lawyers Guild observer. This happened during the march this morning. The legal observer is in police custody and went to the ER.
2:31 PM A list of writers who support the “Occupy” protests. It includes: Max Blumenthal, Barbara Ehrenreich, Neil Gaiman Adam Hochschild, Salman Rushdie, Jeremy Scahill, Jeff Sharlet Rebecca Solnit, Naomi Wolf and others.
2:19 PM Fourteen people were arrested during a march that followed the announcement that there would be no eviction from Liberty Park. NBC reports that demonstrators threw bottles and one a trash can. Who are these people throwing bottles? Occupiers should identify because if they do not know these individuals they are likely provocateurs.
Also, some of the occupiers made it down to the front of the New York Stock Exchange to demonstrate. That has been off-limits for occupiers with police using their forces to prevent marches from going nearby. In the chaos following the announcement that there would be no eviction, some occupiers took advantage of an opportunity.
7:39 AM Kevin reports that things are back to normal, he’ll be going to catch some sleep. In the meantime, you’ll find updates below in comments from Kevin’s Crew. -Elliott

Get some sleep Kevin!
Just a note about what you wrote on Tuesday (irt Harman/Avalon appearance):
I have been thinking about this sentence for a few days. And, this is what I have concluded:
Upholding justice and carrying out justice against powerful individuals who committed fraud and destruction of lives and the economy should never be an unacceptable burden. Nor is expecting justice for the criminal acts, such as those carried out by the financial industry, the act of making of a demand or a “refusing to budge” stance. Justice is never a matter of a demand or inability to compromise. If justice were carried out, without co-opting it with the influence of power, there would be no need for OWS.
We were taken to war on sixteen words which were a lie. THAT should have been a criminal act addressed through carrying out justice. It was not.
The violence used in the war has not been proportional to the injury suffered on 9-11. Much of the criminal war activity has not been held accountable through proper justice. (Destroyed torture tapes, unethical missions killing many civilians, torture, torture of American citizens, spying on American citizens…)
We are experiencing massive fraud and theft of our financial system and economy, which should be criminal acts confronted through justice. These actions have destroyed our economy. The financial fraud has not been confronted and stopped through justice.
I could make a long list of concerns which involve the power elite breaking the law and justice not being upheld.
Harman and Avalon are suggesting that OWS get in line with “the system”.
OWS is not about hyper-partisanship or polarization of two parties that is hurting the country or stopping us from solving problems. If this were a true, factual statement then the “center” would have upheld the Rule of Law by now. I agree the system is broken. However, the brokenness, at its’ core, is the brokenness of justice and the brokeness has the appearance of being rooted in criminal power plays of greed instead of political parties being polarized. The meme of polarization is just the distraction from the criminal activity, criminal power plays. Party polarization would actually have a net result of renewing the carrying out of justice. It has not. Thus, polarization is not the issue.
Restoring justice is the bottom line of OWS. Rule of Law is not about polarizing. A just society is not polarizing.
Avalon and Harman know what they personally need to do to be on the side of restoring the Rule of Law. It is not calling out a movement of justice as a action of polarization.

Random thought: where did the right to kettle protesters come from?
Don’t take this as the final word on this, but I’ve read that they did it extensively during the Rethug Convention in NYC, and also backed up the nets with barricades. There was a lawsuit, and the court ruled they could use nets but could not back them up with barricades. I don’t know whether there was ever any adjudication at a higher level than that court ruling, and haven’t actually read the case.

So, the police just assumed the right, and then the law was created?
Also, when did zip ties for handcuffs become normal?

This Legal Observer being run over, having the bike parked on him, and the surrounding police trying to take cameras from people instead of helping him, is horrific.
The assault earlier today on the HIV positive man was horrific.
NYPD is adding more juice to this movement. These are the things that make the news and reach a broader audience. These are the things that piss people off and wake people up.
Good luck dealing with the crowd tomorrow, NYPD. I wonder if they’ll try to take Wall Street this weekend. That’d be cool.
Yeah I think I’m about done for today; mostly it seems to be recovery from actions in NY and Denver, some news about the NYPD scooters running over some folks, Brookfield got $700k from city fund for “small business”?

A partial synopsis on what’s been going on over at StopTheMach2011/October2011 since the direct action during the Sec Def’s [Panetta] appearance at the Armed Services Committee hearing yesterday (Oct. 13, 2011):
Super duper, quality human beings doing these actions need and deserve your support. If you can’t be there, you can support them by witnessing their direct action, communicating to others about their activities to bring consciousness and accountability, and donating here to support them in what they are doing for the benefit of all of us (e.g. #drones as in here, here and here, here, here and here).

A general announcement for tomorrow for everyone to please read:
True evil.
what’s that about an attack on an hiv man?
by the way, you said you were planning to arrive at about noon tomorrow. just wanted to let you know that the occupyaustin calendar says there’ll be a march starting from city hall at 11:30 am. looks like they’re planning to be back at city hall at about 1:00 pm. i think they’re going to the capitol via chase bank.
does that change your plans? I’m not going to the string band weekend. i don’t know what my plans are yet.
fuckin bastard. that one and tony bologna and the asshole who ran over and stayed parked on the legal observer.
if we want to know who the provocateurs are, we need look no further than new york’s “finest”. they were the ones starting the riots during peaceful demonstrations in the 60′s also. the police weren’t my friends when i lived there then. and they are continuing to be as disgusting as ever.
where’s the screening for what kind of personality and morality get to hold weapons in the name of our legal system?
OMG!
FWIW, Keith Olbermann is tweeting the victim is a male.
Either way, the white shirt is evil. As is his organizational culture.
Based upon one of my relatives having an-ex prison guard for a neighbor, anybody who can’t pass screening for PD goes into corrections… the bar is set pretty low in some places. I wouldn’t be surprised if in some places they actively recruit people like that.

Avaaz.Org has multiple consciousness-raising efforts going including this petition and a live stream on their exhibit at #OWS. The exhibit includes a big LED counter, a jumbo flat screen that appears to be running a video presentation, and the live stream cam on the scene (the audio channel on the LS is interesting and it does change; you can turn the audio very low or off). The Chinese demonstrator (be sure to look at the pic for a translation to his message provided by MayDaze) that has been at #OWS since day one comes by periodically and shows his sign to the live stream video cam. It appears there’s some kind of display behind the camera as folks stop and take photographs or videos of it. Peeps everywhere including those in China are awake and are done with the 1%ers’ brutal, imperial order (e.g. another data point in the form of the 1%ers’ piece in the Sydney Morning Herald [AU], “Profound shift as China marches back to Mao,” by John Garnaut, Beijing, Oct. 9, 2011). { Not! }
