Matt Taibbi has a new, must-read article out titled “Why Rush Limbaugh Is Freaking Out About Occupy Wall Street”
Anyway, the hysterical responses from the Rushes of the world are just more signs that these protests are working. I never thought I’d see it, but some of the dukes and earls high up in America’s Great Tower of Bullshit are starting to blink a little bit. They seem genuinely freaked out that OWS doesn’t have leaders or a single set of demands, which in addition to being very encouraging is quite funny.
Speaking of Rush, I rather like what he had to say yesterday, too:
RUSH: Charlie Gasparino has a piece in the New York Post. He went down, actually talked to some of these protesters down there, and like everybody else that has gone down there and done that, he came away with quite a stark reaction. And his advice is tell the president, you don’t want to be anywhere near this. These people are, whether they know it or not, a bunch of Marxists. This is not just about redistributing wealth. This is about total revolution.
I gotta be honest with you. I haven’t laughed about anything in a long time. I wish I could. None of this is funny to me. That, too, is bumming me out. All this rotgut, and now Cantor yesterday saying, (paraphrasing) “The Republicans, yeah, you know what? We also have a problem with this income inequality stuff.” Was on Fox News Sunday. What is it about our guys? Stare success right in the face and kick it in the face. Yeah, there is a problem with income disparity, yeah, there is too wide a gap. Yeah, yeah. Who we trying to relate to here? Who’s votes are we trying to get to with this? Our phrase is now, the Republican leadership phrase is: We are for income mobility.
So we’re allowing the premise to be set by these people and now we’re jumping in on it and trying to prove it.

Good evening athena1. In the live blog, Kevin mentioned that Naomi Wolf was arrested tonight. According to Josh Harkinson, she’s now been issued a summons and released:
Josh is at a bar right now, next to the police station, talking to some of the occupiers who marched to the police station. He’s tweeting about what went down at the station.
The sophistication of OWS watching their opponents twist slowly in the wind is pure beauty. Rush Limbaugh, Obama, MSM have all been left by the wayside. OWS is populated with truth and a pristine clearness of thought. The MOTU don’t know how to respond to this. Corruption has been replaced by the natural order of truth and art.
So the talk jocks are beginning an astrotuf campaign of ridicule. Perfect. They see their future dissolving before their eyes. All chances of following in Rush Limbaugh’s financial footsteps are fading. And they’re scared. And it’s hit the first level of cities beyond the big ones. In two weeks, look for this same reaction in places like Valdosta GA or Tyler TX.
What’s going on with Occupy Oakland. I thought they had dealt with the police already.
I completely agree, Mary. I honestly think the fact that at least 10% of the Occupy populations are Ron Paul libertarians is a huge strength. It immunizes the occupations from the tribalist blue/red nonsense that usually effectively keeps people functionally retarded and manageable from on high.
In 1996, Hedrick Smith did a series on The Power Game. In describing the MOTU, he cited the infantile nature of their existence – being waited on and being able to command almost anything.
They cannot comprehend adult decision-making. When folks stop obeying their commands, they get as befuddled a Nicolas Ceaucescu in his last speech.

Here’s a video that shows how the consensus process works, including demonstrations of some of the hand signals (via In These Times).
On Saturday night, I read that two groups of protesters separated by police near Times Square used the people’s mic to communicate across the police lines. It’s a great technique. And it keeps the police from shutting down a protest by simply arresting the person with the bullhorn.
Rush and company might pull out all the conventional gimmicks, but the participation of the Paulistas exactly at the time that Dr. Ron is the most adult guy on the GOP debate stage must unhinge them when they are not on the air. And there are some grassroots Tea Party folks drifting to treat their disenthrallment.
Exactly. The times when folks have come close to losing it is when there are folks who either are not aware of it or are too “libertarian” to participate. Folks almost lost it on the Brooklyn Bridge, at the Colorado Capitol, and in Times Square. And having a small group of old school bandana follks (or even provocaters) makes it difficult at times. But the ability to use the public mic avoided becoming disorganized, going into panic, or lashing out. But there were some folks who worked very hard and persistently to keep the group together.
Best comment:
Combine that with the fact that Ron Paul came very, very close to winning the Iowa straw poll, and that the media blackout on that was wonderfully mocked on the Daily Show!
It’s interesting that even the police are using the people’s mic to communicate with the occupiers. Tonight, Josh tweeted that one police officer twinkled in response to a question by the occupiers:
Transforming society one person at a time:
Heh.
You’re not supposed to say that in public.
{ LOL }
Did I tell you that one of the best bands at the Occupy Portland Oct. 15 anti-war march was “Fighting Instruments of Karma”?
Have yáll seen this yet? It’s really good.

Also, where the hell is RC?
The Tea Party says they are against government. The OWS people are against the corporations. The governemnt and the corporations are one and the same. Why do the two groups not see that they should be united?
Here I am, darling goddess. The rumors of my death were an exaggeration lol. I wasn’t even being interviewed by the Secret Service, just had to take a day off due to revolution overload.
FWIW, my extreme right-wing friend, only two weeks after dismissing OWS as a group of disorganized dirty hippies, is now talking about fleeing to his sister’s home on Nantucket island, where he is planning to “weaponize her basement.” I can only interpret that as good news lol.
OWSt. : We need our own Off-Fraudway production of “FAIR”!
beyond thrilling to hear the People’s Mic recite the First Amendment to the coppers at Times Square saturday night
Doesn’t it seem like the OWS is a counterrevolution by the 99% to the Bullshevik revolution that created the 1% … ?
I highly recommend this piece by “Rotwang” at TPM Cafe. It has a photo of the “SHIT IS FUCKED UP AND BULLSHIT” sign, and says:
And:
Occupy TPM Cafe!
I think Rush is terrified that he is losing his army. His power doesn’t entirely come from his mike, it comes from his audience. Yes, he has a bully pulpit, but if people do not tune him in or do so to ridicule him and it is gone. A large segment of his audience breaking from him because he doesn’t speak for or to them and he is no longer the defacto leader of the Republican party. And people who are hurting are getting that everything he has been saying is the way things should go for years have made things worse exactly because of so many of the reasons that OWS say our economy is no longer functioning. OOPS. Cantor is getting the same message from the voters in his district. Being slow they are finally recognizing the two by four telling them the bucks don’t equate to the numbers of voters/viewers they need.

Interesting quote and take on the movement.
Thanks for posting.
Because Tea Partiers (the genuine ones, as opposed to the Republican operatives) worship wealth, power and their own skin color. Nearly all of them are incapable of understanding their self interest, even when many of them complain precisely about banks. Nevertheless, ten or twenty percent could probably peeled off.
If jokes are any indication, lots of people really don’t understand what #occupy is about.
Q. “What’s the best way to clear Zucotti Park?”
A. “Put up a Jobs Fair Booth.”
Where do the dirty hippies get so much time to protest? They must not want to work!
I was wondering the same thing.
It’s just like self-flagellation. As soon as you stop you start wondering why the hell you aren’t in agony any longer….lol
That’s what Taibbi has been saying, too. TP and OWS are natural allies.
The plutocracy depends on keeping the two groups polarized.
I’ll get you for that.
Well, Obama was taking Limbaugh’s advice, before Limbaugh even gave it; he was staying away from it. Just like he’s stayed away from any real reform for his entire time in office.
Maybe Obama should have hired RUSH as his new White House Chief of Staff. He already has so much money that, unlike William Daley, he wouldn’t be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Morgan-Chase.

My own contribution to the Rush Limbaugh Freak Out genre is:
How teachers could make Rush Limbaugh’s head explode, but chronically fail to
I would have thought that the satisfaction of hear old Rushbo melt down, and have to create ever grander and more twisted mischaracterizations of people power being used intelligently, so that it potentially threatens power (or the 1%’s power, if you prefer), would be motivation enough for people to have embraced this idea. So far, I’m wrong about that, but hope springs eternal in this post-OWS-launch world that we live in.
Occupy Columbia SC – Sleeping on the State House Steps
The reason is that the Occupiers are ad-immune. They can’t be brought down by the technique that has allowed the MOTU to take over the country: mass advertising. People are actually starting to believe their lying eyes. I don’t think the MOTU had or have any idea what the level of stress is out there for ordinary Americans. They just don’t see or feel it. Their weapon of choice is the smear, which is why you see Rush out there doing his best for the cause. But smears based on McCarthy’s anti-communist rants are 60 years out of date. Most of the people who once responded to them are either dead or on life support, and certainly don’t give a shit. The MOTU expected LA type riots in the street — you can look it up. What they got instead were non-violent sit-ins. It’s a new world for them, and they don’t yet know how to respond.
change-a-luya! that was great!
Some of Tea Party and OWS are natural allies. The individuals who co opted their rage and funded buses to truck them around where the 1%(or David Kochs). The beauty of OWS is that there is an opportunity to educate those at the bottom that very little separates them. The minor differences all pale in comparison to the fact that the bottom has basically insured the top 1% to their own detriment and we, at the bottom, are all playing a rigged game.
I know! I know!
(I am referring to the later day tea baggers – the ones who came after Obama was put in office, not the original Tea Party folks.) Their corporate handlers what them to be AGAINST government because it interferes with what the corporations want…. and they also promote the belief that it is corporations (and only corporations) who create real jobs here in the USA.
The tea baggers DO NOT see corporations and government as the same, since they have been told repeatedly that they are not the same, and if government got out of the way, all would be fine and dandy! And capitalism and the free markets would make everything just fine!
4 arrested yesterday in Asheville NC for trying to clean up Merrill Lynch….

Also, early this morning, Wells Fargo had a parade and band and horse drawn wagons just past the Occupy Asheville grounds…. reason that they gave was that they are opening a new branch here in town. Now, they are going to be picketed.
Yep, it’s hard to undo years of brainwashing.

Yes, the pre-Koch, grassroots TP, not the later co-opted version.
FABULOUS!
