Livestream from inside the park, which began at midnight CT – “the occupation is not leaving.”
There were 175 people arrested last weekend in Chicago for attempting to set up tents as part of #OccupyChicago. I’ll be there reporting and livestreaming from Grant Park at 7pm central time (6pm ET) as they attempt to set up a base there once again.
Grant Park officially closes at 11pm, which was the excuse used by Chicago police to arrest protesters last week. #OccupyChicago organizers have indicated they intend to stand their ground once again and I will be there at 11 CT to film any arrests/standoff that may happen.

Kevin, if your itinerary for touring nationwide #occupy locations is still open and you will make it to the West Coast, consider visiting Occupy Santa Rosa. I saw this article in the local paper today, and I did not realize that they are the sixth largest #occupy in the nation!

I’m attempting to give people some actions to follow before during and after an event like this so that we can find identify and story infiltrators and agent provocateurs who seek to discredit the movement and give authorities and excuse to shut down protests.

Kevin just stated he’ll be back livestreaming a bit later. In the meantime, per Kevin, the group may be split between those who want to head towards a different site, apparentliy governed by the state and which may be available for at least tonight, or remain at the original site, under city jurisdiction, where they expect to be arrested (again). Last week, 175 were arrested; if they are to be arrested again, the organizers apparently want at least that many committed tonight. More later.

The one plus to Thompson, well two.. would be that Gov Quinn seems to have it in for Rahm so likelier to let olds dray just to aggravate Rahm! Thompson center is right next to City Hall and very visible to Chicagoans …that’s second.
I’d reccomend Thompson Center where a foothold is already established… Grow from there with minimal ‘resistance’…!

Why the heck did the facilitator depart from the GA methodology. There is a reason for that method. Loosey goosey discussions that allow for the formation of factions weaken the movement. You don’t get gold stars for getting arrested. It is a very personal decision about tactics. If there isn’t a consensus, the best thing to do is to talk until there is one. If the police come while you are talking you move those who do not want to be arrested out of the space and hold your ground with whoever is left. That makes it pretty much a freedom of speech and assembly issue. In a public park. Now you have two groups angry at each other, either one of which might bolt, or even worse do something stupid. Grant Park must have disorienting powers over protesters.
I would have about zero faith that they’ll be allowed to stay there. Lying to protesters, and then arresting them for believing you, is one of the biggest tactics being used to cage #Occupy protesters across the country.
Kevin: Park now “closed.” About 100 people still surrounding the nurses tent at Grant Park.
The whole operation looks heavily infiltrated. Getting reports that similar things are happening in groups in major swing states, causing discord & demanding adoption of Democratic party affiliation.
Excellent analysis, I’d only add that the two ‘factions’ you mention should really identify whom is willing to be arrested or not, right away…!
From Kevin’s tweets, apparently around 100 have stayed behind to surround the Nurses United tent. The remainder have formed a picket on the sidewalk, technically outside the park. The wisdom of crowds.

If there are Democratic folks causing discord it has been out of view the livestreams of general assemblies or the livestream interviews. Tonight was the most chaotic that I have seen so far. Second is when folks in Denver were on the capital portico. In that case the facilitator was able to defuse the situation before they busted in the state house doors Most of the divisions that I have seen are not from identifiable factions but from folks who are temperamentally different in approach to tactics.

I was a little harsh about the “asking” emanuel to protest when in fact it is more of a demand … in language, at least … but still the point holds: he’s someone that we are going to have to defeat. And that high living lowlife won’t give an inch until it is taken from him.
This is a big moment tonight for the momentum of this movement. Few have had a bigger role in where we are at than scumbag emanuel. Chicago should be one of the epicenters of discontent.

For instance, the transwoman I talked with today is a MoveOn member. But she has zilch to do with MoveOn politics, except for to have them back her up when she can get them to do so. She’s a real 99%-er revolutionary.

If rahm lets them stay then you know it has been coordinated with moveon to make the dems look good. This may very well be what is in the works: a segue from protest against the establishment … and the odious democratic party is definitely part of that, with the even more odious emanuel playing a very large part in the party’s degradation … to “we need to elect better democrats”.

moveon is a large organization and I’m sure that not each and every person involved in it is garbage but the group itself as a whole is just that IMO: garbage! And I really have to question either the knowledge of the people that still remain affiliated with it or their commitment to their principles.
moveon demonstrated that they were fully embedded up the donkey dems’ ass when they turned face during the health care bill debacle; when they “stood” against a health care bill without a public option one week and then the next week came out and threatened to primary any dems that voted against a health care bill THAT DID NOT HAVE A PUBLIC OPTION in it. I wonder who got in their leadership’s ear? And I seriously wonder why anyone with any principles at all would put their name behind that group unless their overlying principle is to support the democratic party damn near no matter what the hell they do.

I’m watching. Why did it look like Chicago Police were agitating the occupy protesters? Police looked nervous and out in high numbers for a peaceful situation.
I got a lot of respect for these people that are getting arrested. It takes a lot of guts to do that. For a day or so, they’re abandoning any control of their freedom … that’s not easy for most people.

Apparently the American Dream Movement/MoveOn folks were no-shows at the Oct15 anti-war march in PDX. I found out by happenstance as a woman said she couldn’t find anyone from that group for the advertised meet-up.
Ok, lose the drummer rings and let’s get some sangers with songs in this mix . . . sigh, tell a story, please ya can’t do it with drums.

Chicago Bambuser livestreamer leozino is wrapping up his broadcast from park. Looks like the occupiers are hanging around the outside of the park, some are waiting until the police leave before going in, others said they’d wait until the curfew is over to re-claim the park.
moveon was in such a rush to put out the fires of discontent by suffocating them in party politics that they didn’t even proofread their own notice (http://civic.moveon.org/event/events/event.html?event_id=122602&id) and catch the misspelling of “because” on the last line. They’re panicking.
The leaders I understand: THEY’RE CORRUPT. The people that follow them: are they even paying attention? They’ll only protest with the best interests of the party in mind. What is it a social thing … being a cool dem … that keeps them there? Maybe get some digits or something? Hey, would you like to get together Friday and protest and then grab a glass of chardonnay afterward?
I’m going to have to bite through my tongue sometime and go to one of their gatherings. See what the deal is. I’ll just make sure to stay away from the Perrier.

I have attended the #(Un)Occupy Albuquerque but was not in town when this incident happened. Their official FB page says no one was hurt. I am not sure if this is true but eyewitnesses there said no one hurt. It may be that the MSM is trying to frighten people out of attending OWS events with this sort of “news.” The campers also mention an incident with a news reporter being treated “rudely” and there is more on that, I am sure. They/we have been very concerned about the public image that is conveyed, and there may have been an effort to keep the news away from this whole incident. It is true that a man with a knife was arrested and he did threaten people at Camp Coyote.
