Revolution Truth has put together a panel that I am on this afternoon from 12 pm to 2 pm ET called, “WikiLeaks, Whistleblowing & the Global Revolution.” A live audio feed can be listened to by clicking on the player below:
Here is Revolution Truth’s description of the panel:
WikiLeaks has opened up immense possibilities for the future of whistleblowing, for forcing increased transparency in institutions, and for transforming the landscape of journalism. Yet their work and their nature force us to tackle paradoxical and intransigent issues and difficult questions, such as: Who guards the gatekeepers? How do we restore accountability to powerful organizations and institutions? How do governments balance transparency with the need for some measure of secrecy? How do we protect those who bring the public dangerous truths? Most critically, in an arena of increasing information warfare and global unrest, how do we ensure viable, long-lasting change arises out of both Wikileaks’ revelations and global uprisings?
I will be on the panel with Daniel Domscheit-Berg, Birgitta Jonsdottir, Arturo Filasto, Trevor Timm, and Alexa O’Brien. [Bios of each panelist can be read here.]

Kevin, you’re not adequately covering the extent of the violence by police in Oakland. Here is an article with photos and links to video:

Police Turn Oakland Into War Zone
by Allison Kilkenny
Incredible footage emerged from downtown Oakland last night – not of basic law enforcement efforts to maintain public “health and safety” as the police have been claiming – but of a war zone in which police shot tear gas, bean bags, wooden dowels, flash grenades, and rubber bullets at protesters.

Rather than using the weaponry once in a final effort to subdue the crowd, officers reportedly used them over and over again in what @OccupyOakland describes as a “relentless” assault on the thousands of activists gathered near City Hall.
“The city remains committed to respecting free speech as well as maintaining the city’s responsibility to protect public health and safety,” Oakland police said in a statement Tuesday.
The “safety” concerns are the usual complaints levelled at the Occupy movements: sanitation issues, improper food storage, graffiti, litter, and vandalism, although OPD added accusations of fighting, assaults, and “threatening/intimidating behavior.” Yes, you read that correctly. OPD is accusing the protesters of using “threatening/intimidating behavior.”
But you must remember this: the “oversight authorities” to whistle-blowing are completely rigged against you. DO NOT “work within the system”; GO PUBLIC!
I’m not? Did you not see the live blog yesterday?
Plus, I am on tour.

Whew! FDL is having some server problems and I had to shut down and get back in.
Kevin, thank you so much for bringing this panel discussion to us and for participating. I especially liked hearing Brigetta and her point of view. Not only because she was instrumental in the Wikileaks program, but also because she is now a member of Iceland’s government. Her responses should be shocking to all Americans. However, as we are seeing the push back on citizens standing up in the streets our Land of Oz perception is coming to an end. Those levers behind the curtains are being pulled by some very evil minded people.
I also liked the topic of change and what it is that we as people really want the coummunity, state, and government to be if change is possible. Really great seminar!
Excuse me, but there were three of us live blogging that last night. In fact, I stayed up past 2:00 a.m. while Tarheel and MzChief kept bringing the updates.
The Marine vet that was shot point blank in the head will be a hero and cause our military men and women great distress.
You must read the other postings besides just what is on top or in the first screen. You will find much more coverage of all the occupation sites.
Thanks for publicizing the panel, Kevin.
