The answer: they fear this logical next step from the movement more than anything else. They fear it because they know how much appeal it will have. All across the US thousands upon thousands of commercial and residential spaces sit empty while more and more people are forced to sleep in the streets, or driven deep into poverty while trying to pay their rent despite unemployment or poverty wages. We understand that capitalism is a system that has no care for human needs. It is a system which produces hundreds of thousands of empty houses at the same time as it produces hundreds of thousands of homeless people. The police are the line between these people and these houses. They say: you can stay in your rat-infested park. You can camp out here as long as we want. But the moment that you threaten property rights, we will come at you with everything we have.
- This appears to be a kind of prototype for how the mass arrests in NY will be handled in the courts.

I opened an account at my local CU today and it felt great, they are staying open late tonmorrow to service the transfers. The Banksters may end up too small not to fail.
One of the great privileges I’ve had liveblogging the Occupy movement is witnessing the awesome action that Occupy Tulsa did against the Tulsa Police Department. Apparently, they also had people occupy other parks in Tulsa after 11pm to make the point that the eviction from Centennial Plaza (Solidarity Square) was to protect the sensibilities of folks in Tulsa’s financial district.

Impound lots.
Not disagreeing, just commenting on how budgets have inflated if the Lexus and Mercedes are owned by the department.
I’ve speculated that they were hired by someone to assert automobile control over streets or by some business or political bigwigs who feel threatened. But that’s just idle speculation.
It depends on what the guys told the cops and what the cops would have as evidence (and you know they will not go out of their way to find evidence). Is jaywalking a legitimate defense against hit-and-run? Given the petty stuff that can cause eviction, I wouldn’t be surprised.
I never thought of that. Asset seizure.

TPD have been out and offered the protesters citations instead of arresting them. (A gesture of trying to work with Occupy Tulsa).o
Occupy Tulsa respectfully declined the citations.
Waiting for the TPD to return to arrest.
From https://twitter.com/#!/BlogWood :
An example is “Suspected Agent Provocateur Wearing $650 Jacket” (Toronto G20 Exposed, ~ July 7, 2010). So the community must document all these people despite what the police say and do. Hence Spocko’s posting, “Do You Know these Black Bloc Vandals? Video” (Nov. 4, 2011 12:58 pm). I think it’s practical and essential to “draw boundaries between those who are clearly working toward our goals, and those who are clearly not.“
sorry they have mixed together pics from DC a& Oakland in that one
the pics on the right are the oakland car. i’d read there was a woman in the car and that after he was through the intersection, they traded seats.
disregard that last, pics from DC & Oakland mixed together there
LS – Occupy Tulsa
Here come the TPD.
Occupy Tulsa is apologizing that they mayor and council are inconveniencing the TPD by making them come out.
The arrests are beginning; they are calling out the name of the person arrested and calling them a hero. (Still no video).
“Who do you serve. Who do” you protect.”
“Shame.”
“General assembly, please take one step back in response to the officer’s request”
The arrests are over. Singing “This little light of mine.” and “Solidarity forever”
“You do not arrest people for double parking. Why are you singling us out. Thank you. We like to be unique.”
Holding up the example of the police in Albany’s refusal to arrest protesters.
“Feel free to join us when you get laid off.”

from the amount of RW trolling in the #OccupyDC Twitter, I think the inside the beltway wanna-be-1%ers are all the way up to “second they make fun of you”
most of the rest of the country is already in various phases of “third they fight you” with co-option attempts, smear campaigns, and of course police actions
Washington DC is always behind the curve of the rest of the country
LS – Occupy Tulsa
Video is back up. Not much battery life left as well.
Occupy Tulsa tells TPD that they would appreciate their leaving their riot gear behind tomorrow, that they are peaceful and nonviolent.
There is maybe as many as 70 people there with a candlelight vigil.
LS – Occupy Tulsa
Over for another night. Occupy Tulsa sang “Goodbye, Farewell, Adieu, Adieu, Adieu” to the TPD and told them they would see them tomorrow night. It looked like the crowd was larger tonight than previous nights. Last night’s news coverage about them singing the National Anthem and telling the TPD that they loved them and that they were the 99% might have made it easier for more folks to turn out.
Tonight they mostly gave citations with no arrests, but they zip cuffed one guy and had to uncuff him so he could sign the citation and get a court date. Then they let him go. Per his story on the LS.
Before I go for the night, one last thought on last nights rumors of another eviction attempt in NY… last night I saw some Twitter discussion that it might have all been a psy-op to make the occupiers distrustful of newcomers and have them cede initiative while waiting for NYPD to act…
Remember, Monday Occupy Birmingham Alabama is supposed to kick off.
Wonder how that one will play out… already been calls for Anonymous for extra watchfulness.
To quote the mayor of another city (Atlanta), “at a time of my choosing”. I think it’s a background threat, but what else is new?
Depends on how many and how diverse a group is going to Occupy and where they set up. They have already done an all-nighter to test police response. It’s going to be a situation sort of like Atlanta or Charlotte.
