A number of people who have shared their stories are not just struggling to find a job but cannot find a job because they have children or family that they would have to abandon or neglect if they pursued their job search:
My wife and I live in different cities because we can’t find jobs in the same one.
The job that laid me off would only take me back if I took a pay cut and a demotion.
I can’t look for more work because I can’t pay for daycare for our kids.

People are just going to have to get together and create their own Co-Ops. Forget Washington, Forget Corporations that have abandoned this country that made them great, and Forget what pundits on tv say.
We the People have to remake this country so that it serves a purpose and serves the People.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

Power to the People!
After a few years hiatus, the occupy wall street movement’s inspired me to hit the overpasses again…

forgot how much fun it was.
Well said!!
Awesomenicity!
Go, Freeway!
Thanks. Just the Twooph. Politicians are only worried about lining their pockets and getting re-elected. The tv Pundits help them spread the blame around.
Thanks – couldn’t believe that second sign was still up – closing in on a million viewers by now. Still amazes me that everyone doesn’t do it.
Welcome back freewayblogger!
I apologize for being off topic on here, though not completely, but I am scandalized by Thom Hartmann’s program this Monday morning. He is leaning hard on the meme that OWS is not nonviolent, and really pressing the case that it doesn’t belong in the same category as the civil rights movement in terms of violence. Quoting Dick Gregory, having on a quasi aggressive protestor, and the like.
Shame on you, Thom. Really hyping the fear factor here. I too have reservations about the use of violence but you actually claimed that is not one of the priorities of OWS and that is simply not true. Acting holier than thou doesn’t cut it, Thom. Counseling towards nonviolence, which is what the core of the movement is about, does.
Lest I seem picky, Thom’s statements were really outrageous – he aligned himself with Dick Gregory’s statements that these young yuppy white folks in the OWS movement didn’t have a clue about the struggles of African Americans, and went on further to quote a black lady who asserted she would be most uncomfortable going to protest because she’d be treated far differently than the white kids who would get preferential treatment. And he actually proposed that standing in front of a bank entrance with a noisy demonstration was violence – what did he want them to do – sing Christmas carols?
That’s just hokum, Thom! The protestors are not violence prone rich young people with nothing to do getting preferential treatment from the cops. Wake up and smell those roses and stop spreading manure! For crying out loud.
(I guess I listen to Thom Hartmann so others won’t have to. Let that be my sacrifice for the cause. Trying to keep my blood pressure at a safe, calm, nonviolent level)
Yeah!
YYay!
Awesome!
I know the feeling. Thom Hartmann is a non-event waiting to happen. Too bad. He seemed to have so much potential.

How did the meaning of “violence” get so warped?
I’ve seen/heard this kind of talk elsewhere, as if noise or chaotic movement were violence. How do people not know what violence is? Throwing an object, say a chair, a hard ball, anything that might cause injury (including a non-lethal tear gas canister, for example) AT a person, or in any direction that MIGHT hit a person or damage property is violence.
Hitting, pushing, slapping, stabbing, shooting, kicking are violence.
Screaming is not violence, no matter how unpleasant.
Drumming is not violence.
Arguing is not violence.
Asking a cop why you are being arrested, even rudely, is not violence.
How do people come up with these things?
